What is an ERW tube mill production line?
An ERW tube mill production line is a complete welded pipe production system. It takes steel strip from coil, forms it into a tube shape, welds the seam, sizes the pipe and cuts the finished pipe to the required length.
For overseas pipe manufacturers, this type of line is commonly used for construction pipe, scaffolding pipe, greenhouse pipe, furniture tube, structural tube and general industrial welded pipe. The final configuration should always be selected according to pipe size, wall thickness, material, target output and workshop layout.
Complete process flow from steel coil to finished pipe
A typical ERW welded pipe production line follows this production flow: Uncoiling -> Shearing and Butt Welding -> Accumulator -> Forming -> High Frequency Welding -> Cooling -> Sizing -> Flying Saw Cutting -> Run-out Table -> Packing.
Each step affects production stability. If strip feeding is unstable, forming will be difficult. If forming is not controlled well, welding quality may suffer. If cutting and run-out handling are not matched with line speed, the whole pipe mill can lose efficiency.
Main equipment in a complete ERW pipe mill
A complete ERW pipe mill usually includes uncoiler, shear and butt welder, accumulator, forming mill, high-frequency welding system, cooling section, sizing mill, flying saw cutting machine, run-out table and tube mill rolls.
The uncoiler feeds steel strip into the line. The shear and butt welder connects strip ends for continuous production. The accumulator stores strip so the forming section can keep running. The forming mill shapes the strip. The high-frequency welding system welds the seam. The sizing section controls final pipe dimensions. The flying saw cuts pipe to length, and the run-out table transfers finished pipe for collection or packing.
Why high-frequency welding is important
High-frequency welding is one of the key sections of an ERW tube mill line. The welding system must match pipe OD, wall thickness, material and line speed, otherwise the seam may be unstable or the production speed may need to be reduced.
For a practical proposal, buyers should not only ask for the machine model. It is better to provide the material grade, wall thickness range and main product application so the supplier can review suitable welding power and related equipment.
How buyers should choose the line configuration
The first step is to confirm the finished pipe range. Round pipe OD, wall thickness, pipe length, material and product use are more important than the machine name. A pipe mill for light furniture tube and a pipe mill for heavy structural pipe should not use the same configuration.
Buyers should also confirm target capacity, expected line speed, automation level, roll tooling plan and workshop space. If square or rectangular tube will be produced frequently, the supplier should review whether a normal round-to-square route or a direct forming square tube mill is more suitable.
When to add a steel coil slitting line
An ERW tube mill needs steel strip with a suitable width for each pipe size. If the factory purchases wide steel coils, a steel coil slitting line may be required before tube production.
For a new pipe factory, the slitting line and tube mill line can be planned together. This helps raw material preparation, strip storage and production flow work more smoothly.
Factory layout and installation points
Before confirming an ERW tube mill production line, buyers should check workshop length, crane height, power supply, foundation condition, raw material loading route, finished pipe handling area and operator space.
A simple workshop drawing is very helpful. It allows the engineering team to plan line direction, maintenance access, coil storage area, finished pipe area and future expansion space before the machine is manufactured.
Buyer checklist before requesting a quotation
Before asking for a quotation, prepare the following details: pipe shape, round pipe OD range, square or rectangular tube size if needed, wall thickness range, material, pipe length, application, target line speed or capacity, workshop drawing and whether this is a new factory or an existing pipe mill upgrade.
If some details are not confirmed yet, write "to be confirmed based on project requirements". A professional tube mill manufacturer can help review the missing information and prepare a more useful technical proposal.
What Zhongyue can provide for ERW tube mill projects
Zhongyue can review the buyer request, discuss the production route, prepare an equipment list, suggest a line layout direction and provide a technical quotation plan based on project requirements.
For overseas projects, the support may include manufacturing, assembly, pre-shipment checking, installation guidance, commissioning support, operator training and after-sales communication. The exact scope should be confirmed according to the final project contract.
